A decade-plus experience in electronic composition
Ricki Marvel focused on electronic music production between 2006 & 2021. When she started, electronic acts were rare in the Central Illinois indie rock scenes. Her influences were AIR, Radiohead, and New order as well as horror film scores from the 70’s and 80’s. In college, her days were spent studying music theory and her nights experimenting and applying that knowledge as she was learning to write music.
She cut her teeth on archaic methods, recording on cassette & DAT tapes using vintage synths, boutique modulars, and old sequencers. Eventually she began using computers. She got a lot of practice.
In 2016, she released an instrumental set of abstract soundscapes called EP, some of which was used by NPR Illinois for stories. In 2021, she was commissioned to make a soundtrack for a video art piece by Adda Farcus on climate change called after the winter.
Ricki loves telling stories through music and knows how to enhance the emotion of a song or the mood of a video scene.
